Look for animal tracks in the wet sand. (Best bet is early in the morning by the least inhabited camp beaches.)
Check for animal signs: nests, burrows, scat, other.
Identify wildflowers. (Guides can help with this.)
Look for high water marks from this year's runoff.
Wild birds in camp are plentiful -- try to find as many different types as possible.
Find a quiet place along the river and try to imagine how the Monanche Indians might have used the area.
Cut your own river using a container of water in sloped, wet sand -- you are the "source". Watch for the river feature you create (forks, confluence, holes, etc.).
Check out some of the river and nature books listed in the bibliography.
Help keep the Zephyr Camp and the river litter free. Please put trash where it belongs. Thanks!
Please tell the guides some new jokes!
Sketch or write your impressions of the Kings River.
